Harlem Yacht Club’s Vice-Commodore’s Regatta 2015

September 29, 2015

Submitted by Lesley B.

It was a breezy, overcast day for the 2015 HYC Vice-Commodore’s regatta. But, even with the threat of rain not far away, the crews of the eight boats that entered the race could not be deterred. Following the skippers’ meeting, the boats all headed out to the start line for the 1.00 pm gun. Race Committee (PC Bruce & Diane L., Art K., and Rita T.) sent us on a course around the K, B, and L marks and then back to the finish. Thai Hot (with prosecco corks a-popping) blasted across the start line with Annandale, Deuce of Hearts, Mincemeat, Leeds The Way (double-handed by PCs Leeds and Rogan) and Pas de Deux all following in hot pursuit. Adopting a different approach, Still Crazy crossed the start line on port tack, while Trinity, which also had a great start, took an early lead and never looked back. Following the race, the crews gathered on the deck for some post-race drinks, munchies and HYC visors, courtesy of Vice-Commodore Bob & Joan R. Then it was time for the awards ceremony officiated by PC Lages, who read out the results and presented the trophy to the winner: Trinity (with sail-boaters Philip S. and Jill R., accompanied by power-boaters Steve O. and daughter Ruby). The rain stayed away until about 5.00 pm when the skies finally opened and forced the various crews indoors to the bar and restaurant to continue the evening’s festivities. A special thanks to Vice-Commodore Bob & Joan R., to the Race Committee, and to all the sail-boaters, power-boaters, Associate and Social members who turned out to make the Vice-Commodore’s regatta such a great event.

Full results are as follows:
3.Deuce of Hearts
4.Still Crazy
5.Thai Hot
7.Leeds the Way
8.Pas de Deux
